Educator and articulator in Human Rights

My career grew from the conviction that critical, participatory education connected to local realities is the key to expanding social participation and turning rules, treaties and commitments into concrete practice. This belief has guided me from my first steps in Law to working in the most complex spaces of international cooperation.

I hold a law degree and master's in Law from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), a PhD in Education from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), and was a visiting professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal. This academic path shaped not only technical and scholarly knowledge but an interdisciplinary perspective on Human Rights education, social justice and the challenges of contemporary democracy.

An interdisciplinary perspective on Human Rights education.

As a young lawyer, my experience at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights was a decisive milestone. There I understood both the strength and the limits of multilateralism — a space crossed by disputes, yet indispensable for articulating differences, recognizing responsibilities and building possible convergences among diverse struggles.

In 2004, I founded the Institute for Development and Human Rights (IDDH), a civil-society organization dedicated to education, articulation and knowledge production on international protection systems. Since then, IDDH has become my main platform of work, providing training, supporting organizations and strengthening institutional capacities in Human Rights in Brazil and Latin America.

As a professor and executive director of IDDH, I have worked for more than two decades in Human Rights education, in the critical training of defenders and in the creation of educational spaces that dialogue with the real world. This includes the creation and coordination of Human Rights legal clinics focused on active learning, community engagement and the development of personal and professional competencies for critical and responsible practice.

"One of the 50 Human Rights leaders in the world."

My work extends to international organizations and cooperation networks. In 2025, I was elected to the Executive Council of UPR Info, an international organization based in Switzerland, taking part in processes linked to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR/UN). I also participate in the UPR Brazil and UPR Latin America Collectives, contributing to reporting, follow-up of recommendations and monitoring and implementation processes that strengthen civil society's presence in international systems. I also engage with UN committees, the Inter-American System and academic networks — always in connection with those building rights on the front line.

Along this path, I was named by Equitas as one of the 50 Human Rights leaders in the world, in addition to receiving institutional mentions for continuous articulation work.

This website is a space to learn more about this trajectory, but also an invitation. Here you will find content, reflections, reference materials and records of experiences that cross Human Rights education, multilateralism, social participation and democratic governance. If you wish to deepen debates, broaden repertoires or approach these topics critically and accessibly, this space was designed for you.
